The "Ive got no choice... I have to bitch about Obamacare" thread

Ok.... So my wife and I have (had) good insurance through her work.... We pay about $800/month and that covers her, me and the boy.

It used to be:

$20 to go see a doctor (I dont really give a shit about this... Id pay the doctor bill itself. I dont go to the doctor because Im lonely.)

$20 for physical therapy/xrays

$10 for scrips.

$100 to go to the ER

$100 for inpatient or outpatient surgery.

We recently found out that thanks to Obama Care our policy has changed.

We still pay $800 per month.

Its now $40 to go see a doctor/ xrays/ phys ther. (dont really care.)

Still $100 to got to the ER.

But now... Inpatient AND outpatient procedures, we pay 30% of the fcuking bill....

We found this little tidbit out when my wife went in for a colonoscopy.... As if that isnt fun enough, we got a bill for over a thousand bucks. For a procedure, that thanks to out family history's (both of our mothers had colon cancer) well each have to have every other year or so for the rest of our lives....

fcuk ME... Thats not INSURANCE any more.... A hospital bill can QUICKLY go up to a $100K 30% of that would DROWN most people. Hell This is all I want insurance FOR... So if we get hit by a bus, or get REALLY sick, were not bankrupted.... But thanks to Barry, What Ive got is a guy in a white coat who I can go visit for $40 bucks when I get lonely, but no INSURANCE that if I have an M.I and run up a million dollar hospital bill, we wont be bankrupted by it.

I shopped around.... ALL the policys Ive seen are going this way.... To get the policy I HAD, before the government got involved, would now cost over $2K per month.

It's unbelievable you just brought this up. I had the same procedure done a couple weeks ago, and experienced the same bill shocker you did. I was told I wasn't eligible for coverage because I was under 55. My bcbs ppo only covered the "beyond customary" charges because I was in network.

I can't believe they considered my colonoscopy to be an "elective proceedure"

My rates went up, coverage stayed the same. But I decided to opt for a High Deductible plan with the Health Savings Account. I go to the doctor once or twice a year why pay $1200 a year.

I've been sitting here trying to type a pseudo-intelligent non-inflammatory agreement with you, but I can't.

This WHOLE subject makes me irate. Its unbelievable and a damn shame. I sure as hell didn't vote for him, and will be proud to let anyone that asks me know why I didn't and what my thoughts are on this administration and their "vision" of Amerika.

I don't know last time anyone under 27 I know went to a doctor for check ups or just to check when something is hit/sprained.. Not sure where that fits but that's the case and that's fucked.

I am 25, I go because one physical a year is covered. If I am aching or something like that I dont go in. I just let it pass, if I go more than two weeks with the same issue Ill go in.

I learned at the age of 7, a doctor cant do much for you UNLESS youre REALLY sick. I dont need to spend $40 when I have a cold to have him tell me "its a virus... I cant make it go away... drink lots of fluids and rest..."

Same for strains and sprains- ice and vitamin M.

now you got me looking up vitamin M.

You have a point, but I do too - I know people who have injured their wrists/elbows and they don't know if it's a sprain or a fracture.. so they play the waiting game for a few weeks and see how it goes. My own wrist still gives me discomfort 6 weeks later..if not more. For all I know it could be fractured, I never went to check because I don't have $$$ for that, so down the line I am probably going to pay more (and have the system pay more) when I am 60 and that shit hurts every day

Agreed. Even if there is a problem, half the time they tell you to sleep it off. 2 years ago I threw a sloppy left hook and lost all feeling from my elbow down for days. Went to see an orthopedic doctor, and he told me to come back if I still couldn't feel anything in 6 weeks. Have similar stories for when I fractured L5 and also when I tore my medial meniscus.

My plan went up a little over 10%. We pay about $430/month for me/wife + 2 kids. $20 copay etc. Free annual checkups. Ours is really not that bad. Came in real handy this year our youngest was born. Almost $15k in hospital bills, Dr bills, etc. I think I paid like $1500 out of pocket and that was mainly the epidural.

10% doesn't sound like much but when spread out to 150,000 people in our company than that's a huge number.

It seems if you are broke here you are laughing because everything is free :lol2:

Our family doctor charges $55 for a consultation Medicare refunds $34 of that, from consultations done by a specialist we get about 50% refunded by Medicare.

Our private health insurance seems to only be beneficial if God forbid you end up being a vegetable in the hospital at which point who cares?

I have no idea why she's spending nearly $8k/year for private healthcare, got to talk to my wife tomorrow now she's saying her favorite show is on TV :icon_mrgreen:

She did tell me that I can have free massage done under our health insurance policy, they will not pay for our medical checkups but they will give us few sessions of free massage :lol2:

So your private insurance from a for profit corporation went up in reaction to a government action that is not even up and running yet or was there some other reason to increase the cost?
