capt_chaos Report post Posted March 8, 2015 Short version. Went with LABrit to pick up his new car. It is a bloody ace. If you like waffled rambling writing and pictures then scroll down for the long version. Long version Ok being a mod on here is not always without its perks and so I was invited by LABrit to pick up his new car. But not just any little trip to the local dealership... he also asked if I wanted to help drive it back. Back to the UK. When asked I said yes practically instantly. Then I thought about it a bit more and was to be honest a bit anxious. Living in England you can take a short trip to Knightsbridge and see several supreme idiotic fart bags idling revving in built up areas annoying people with pointless subhuman behaviour. Poseur behaviour bores me. What happens if LABrit was like that? The car was in Germany and I was concerned I would have to suffer idiotic behaviour all the way. Gumball driving is cool to watch on your PC but not from the passenger seat. Luckily LABrit is pretty cool. Drove safe and fast when the situation warranted. Better yet he let me drive practically 3/4 of the journey back. The guy is legit, car owning history includes a number of Porsches, a few Ferraris and Lambos, currently one of my dream cars, a Carrera GT and more importantly I have not seen any footage of him acting like a tit outside Harrods. The only issue is that he is incredibly short. The trip had been on the cards for a few weeks but for one reason or other it was postponed. In fact it was only really last Wednesday we spoke on the phone for the first time which is a bit of a shock when you think that we were picking the car up on Sat. - previously communication was texts, whatsapp and emails to sort legal docs etc in order for me to drive. The car was in Dresden, East Germany. Original plan was to go there then 12 hours drive to London driving through Germany, Holland, Belgium and France. But due to the personal and clerical hiccups that kept on happening that road trip would be too easy. We looked at the options and the only logical plan to us was to make the trip longer. See, we were picking up a special car. Yes I can hear you groaning at the line. The plan was to fly to Dussledorf from LHR, then connection plane to Dresden, pick up the car. Then drive to Stuggart in South Germany and nose around the Porsche factory and museum then drive home via the Channel Tunnel. The car? This. I finished work on Thursday, got the train to London village and met with LABrit. First time I met the guy. Anyway we drive off to see his CGT which is kept at a secure location and to make sure the battery is still dead. It was. Then we grabbed some food as we had to be up at early as fcuk in the morning. Taxi to LHR, we admired the sunrise, drank coffee, mocked small people thinking they were children (okay I did that bit) and made friends with the moronic slow and incredibly dim security people. Also we haggled exchange rates, I will let LABrit explain who is the best negotiator. One jet plane and one propeller plane flight later along with several comments from me on the state of the trolley dollys we arrive in Dresden where we had to deal with frankly the worst dealership experience you could encounter at this level. However I did manage to slot a few second world war film references into conversations with the salesman. Maybe he was so surly because he was as a Dresden resident and was riled with us Brits... Several hours later we are on the road to Stuttgart. LABrit on first shift. The car is fast as. Whilst Autobahn's are not the natural home for a track focused car it still dealt with them fine. LABrit has the time / distance stats but several hours later I had zero numb arse and only a mild ringing in the ears. Cabin is roomy and build quality is actually pretty good. LABrit handed the driving duties over to me. Snow on the fields on the sides of the and LABrit hands over the driving duties of his 1/4 million pound Ferrari to someone he has physically met for less than 24hours to drive on Autobahns at night. Car feels alive, ultra quick steering, yes you have to concentrate on that whilst the V8 motor trebuchets you up the road. The car is as quick as the lies coming from your girlfriend's mouth when you ask her how much she spent in the last shoe sale. But the best is bumpy road mode. Whoever implemented that at Ferrari needs a payrise. It is more magical than an Hogwarts school reunion. Not limo smooth but bloody impressive smooth. The ride quality is magnificent and noticeably different, infact all driving modes are markedly different. LABrit went for Race and the exhaust has a blare to it as the flaps open. I opt for Sport and that seemed to be the better cruising option as LABrit makes texts and calls in the passenger seat. The noise of the car is different from a standard 458 presumably for track day noise limits. At the hotel where someone booked me in with a comical name which I had to use 1: check in with and then 2: confirm later to the reception desk because I forgot what room I was in LABrit chatted about which British car company is going to go tits up first. Saturday morning and as I knocked on LABrits hotel door and I was shocked and surprised my room was bigger than LABrit's. His did not even have a telephone near the toilet to order room service from. Porsche Museum, too many pics to sort properly so below is a just a scatter gun of images. But we were lucky to get a tour guide. His name was Hannes Sprecher and only worked Saturdays at the museum and was supremely knowledgeable, knew his cars and indulged our child like babbling at the cars. What also helped was LABrit flashing his CGT key. That got us into the museum workshop where they prepped cars for show and events around the world. Later in the tour opening up cars for us to get a better look inside. I certainly saw no one else getting access to the Le Mans winning GT1 with both doors open so you can admire how cramped the cockpit yet also look at the detail of the carbon fibre. He was such a great tour guide and a credit to the brand. Reverse upskirt shot of the gorgous 918 Back to the Ferrari, LABrit hit the roads out of Stuttgart and as I looked for routes to the Channel Tunnel. Some frighteningly effortless speed later we are in France. A short while later I am in the driver;s seat. After I have pushed it back. As a guide to the size of the cabin, I did not need to have the seat all the way back. Did not need to stop at these much surprisingly On the way back we went for a detour to the old circuit Reims. Now a pile of dilapidated buildings but a former F1 track is always worth parking up at when you are driving a Ferrari through Europe More info is http://www.circuitsofthepast.nl/en-US/reims My pics here. Porsche versus Ferrari stare down Porsche theme is strong Ready to board the train I will let LABrit put in his input of the car but it is a hugely and impressive achievement from Ferrari to produce a car with track intent yet after several miles on Autobahns/Autoroutes/Motorways I could turn around and drive back. But this is the car as I was dropped off at LGW

IanMan Report post Posted March 9, 2015 Thank you for sharing, Sir! I felt like I was reading a magazine article. I love your completely honest opinions, and I laughed when I read about the revving of the engine like douche bags, lol. I can't stand those arabs that park their cars in front of buildings in crowded areas and rev the shit out of them like they're about to start the 24 hours of LeMans for Youtube. I would love to see more write ups like this! On a side note, I used to live in England when I was a little kid. My father was stationed there for Embassy duty. I miss it a lot, and can't wait to return, one day.

HannibalACP82 Report post Posted March 9, 2015 Cappy you really should write more often. You had me in stitches. Especially because I am imagining you two refer to each other as Capt underscore Chaos and LABrit the entire time and never learning each other's birth names. I love the fact that LP is the kind of place where you can call a guy up you have never met in real life and invite him on a road trip and not have it be the least bit awkward. Congrats on the car LABrit!
