Chimay52 Report post Posted May 2, 2011 what I dont understand is.... why is he buried at the sea? I kind of get the feeling that on the boat ride back, they were all partying out of their minds, drunk as hell and celebrating the most logical way possible.....by messing with Dead Bin Laden and treating his body like a Weekend at Bernie's movie. Someone accidently dropped him off the side of the boat and they didn't feel like going back to get him, so they have spun it into a Burial at Sea story. Well played America.....well played. That way there won't be a burial site for him to have mourners come to an shrine up for him. NOt that it won't happen all over the place to some degree, but i believe that is why they did it. I caught some of it on NPR this morning on my way to work.

WheelsRCool Report post Posted May 2, 2011 I think the people drawing comparisons between people celebrating 9/11 versus people celebrating bin Laden's death are taking the political correctness a bit too far. The man was a murderer for Pete's sake. A proper comparison would be if, say, in retaliation for the Lockerbie bombing, some American blew up a plane full of innocent Libyans and everyone was cheering. THAT would be inappropriate, because if some terrorist kills a group of your citizens, you don't cheer if a group of theirs get killed, as the people are probably innocent. However, if some terrorist kills a group of your people, it is perfectly acceptable to cheer if you kill said terrorist in retaliation. As for Obama, he is a slick orator, definitely, and I think his calm, Captain Cool demeanor is great, but none of that changes my opinion of him as being a mostly far-left, Chicago-style politician. Roman Report post Posted May 2, 2011 Helicopters descended out of darkness on the most important counterterrorism mission in U.S. history. It was an operation so secret, only a select few U.S. officials knew what was about to happen. The location was a fortified compound in an affluent Pakistani town two hours outside Islamabad. The target was Osama bin Laden. Intelligence officials discovered the compound in August while monitoring an al-Qaida courier. The CIA had been hunting that courier for years, ever since detainees told interrogators that the courier was so trusted by bin Laden that he might very well be living with the al-Qaida leader. Nestled in an affluent neighborhood, the compound was surrounded by walls as high as 18 feet, topped with barbed wire. Two security gates guarded the only way in. A third-floor terrace was shielded by a seven-foot privacy wall. No phone lines or Internet cables ran to the property. The residents burned their garbage rather than put it out for collection. Intelligence officials believed the million-dollar compound was built five years ago to protect a major terrorist figure. The question was, who? The CIA asked itself again and again who might be living behind those walls. Each time, they concluded it was almost certainly bin Laden. President Barack Obama described the operation in broad strokes Sunday night. Details were provided in interviews with counterterrorism and intelligence authorities, senior administration officials and other U.S. officials. All spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive operation. By mid-February, intelligence from multiple sources was clear enough that Obama wanted to "pursue an aggressive course of action," a senior administration official said. Over the next two and a half months, Obama led five meetings of the National Security Council focused solely on whether bin Laden was in that compound and, if so, how to get him, the official said. Normally, the U.S. shares its counterterrorism intelligence widely with trusted allies in Britain, Canada, Australia and elsewhere. And the U.S. normally does not carry out ground operations inside Pakistan without collaboration with Pakistani intelligence. But this mission was too important and too secretive. On April 29, Obama approved an operation to kill bin Laden. It was a mission that required surgical accuracy, even more precision than could be delivered by the government's sophisticated Predator drones. To execute it, Obama tapped a small contingent of the Navy's elite SEAL Team Six and put them under the command of CIA Director Leon Panetta, whose analysts monitored the compound from afar. Panetta was directly in charge of the team, a U.S. official said, and his conference room was transformed into a command center. Details of exactly how the raid unfolded remain murky. But the al-Qaida courier, his brother and one of bin Laden's sons were killed. No Americans were injured. Senior administration officials will only say that bin Laden "resisted." And then the man behind the worst terrorist attack on U.S. soil died from an American bullet to his head. It was mid-afternoon in Virginia when Panetta and his team received word that bin Laden was dead. Cheers and applause broke out across the conference room. capt_chaos Report post Posted May 2, 2011 I share the happiness of my US fellows and it's a great day for real peaceful Islam world too.. He was the reason why many people accused all Muslims as terrorists.. It will take long time to gain peoples trust and it's all because of these radical bastards.. .. but I still believe September 11 was a conspiracy and Osama as well as Saddam was a toy used by the dark forces to complete their "Great Middle East" plan. It was confirmed that there were no nuclear weapons in Iraq so the reason for war was a big LIE.. Afghanistan, has it been invaded because of Al Kaida or petrol? Now all the chaos in North Africa.. ..but unfortunately things are not going very well as planned.. Liberalizing (Invading ) Iraq has cost trillion dollars to US economy because of this US government has chosen not to participate in Libya.. First paragraph great. The rest? Seriously? Roman Report post Posted May 2, 2011 Burial at sea? Wtf Muslim burial practice includes burial at sea??? This could be a problem. I sincerely doubt he was actually "buried at sea" (yet, at least).... More likely on ice, on a boat or in Bagram. Keeps people from asking where he is, and discourages the shrine. Cover story until we can (quietly) do a full autopsy on him... Ascari_2 Report post Posted May 2, 2011 Thank god the NY Times didn't get a hold of the story before it was executed. Hats off to the men and women who are doing everything to keep us safe, and a huge thank you to Team Six! It's a shame we will probably never know who these individuals really are, but I am sure they know that even in their anonymity, they are being thanked by many. Lightning Report post Posted May 2, 2011 To say this was one HELL of a way to end the weekend is an understatement!!!!! I got a text from my friend about it as soon as the news broke, and am very happy I was able to make it in front of a TV minutes later for the majority of the news. This is an announcement youll remember for the rest of your lives! TO ONE OF THE MOST EVIL MEN IN HISTORY; WE GOT YOU MOTHERFUKKER!!!!!! You dont mess with the SEAL's!!!!!! Bravo to anyone part of the operation that took this terrorist down, as well as to all of our other men and women in the Armed Services for contributing in hundreds of other ways, like KEEPING OUR BORDERS SAFE WHILE WE HUNTED FOR HIM!!! Security on the Post where I work (US ARMY, I am a Civilian DoD Specialist though, not enlisted) was hightened today as well. I am sure we will be on high alert for awhile after an event like this, as we just took down the biggest target in the world. Unfortunately, we may not hear much about the specific SEAL's that took him down until after they are discharged, as being Active Duty Seals, names or personal specifics are never released. Like others said though, I cant WAIT to read this full story when it is finally out!!!! GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!! JUSTICE WAS SERVED!!!!
